MCFD Programs Delivered

1) Deaf and Hard of Hearing Programs & Services: Specialised early intervention services for d/Deaf and hard of hearing children and their families birth to school age entry. Services include communication intervention that range from spoken language, American Sign Language and a combination of approaches. Services are provided by Speech Language Pathologists, Teachers of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, a Listening and Spoken Language Specialist, Sign Language Instructors who are also Deaf/Hard of Hearing role models, Early Childhood Educators and Family Support Parents.


Community capacity building that includes education, support and consultation to service providers in BC, Yukon and NWT that work with d/Deaf/hard of hearing children and families.


2) Surrey Early Speech and Language Program (SESLP): Speech and language services to children (not deaf/hard of hearing) and their families birth to school age entry that live in North and South Surrey. Services are provided by Speech Language Pathologists.

Dr. Noreen R. Simmons

Noreen received her Ph.D., in neurolinguistics from the University of British Columbia and is a certified Speech-Language Pathologist with a background in Audiology. She has more than 25 years experience with early intervention and family-centred services. Her interests include business development, leadership management, mentoring and coaching staff and aspiring graduate students, and clinical research related to the population served.


Outside of her professional life, Noreen loves spending time with her family and her golden retrievers, traveling and exploring new places, reading, hiking and tennis.
